Lochman Lectures
The ‘Ev. Studienhaus’ organises at regular intervals the ‘Lochman Lectures’ and between the years 2012-2019 was also able to award a Lochman-Scholarship, which benefited students of theology from various churches and countries around the world.
With these, along with the Lochman Lectures planned again for May 2027, we commemorate the theological teacher, ecumenist and rector of the University of Basel Jan Milic Lochman (1922-2004), who not only cultivated international church relations, but also spent his early years in Bohemia and Prague. During his more than thirty years in Basel, his theological commitment was focussed on teaching and standing up for the Christian message. He did this by working for and with the global church, promoting dialogue and understanding of different cultures and socio-political contexts.
Basel, Riehen and the surrounding area has always been a region where people from different countries and denominations have found and continue to find a home. The spiritual heritage and the various Christian networks are enriching. The aim of the ‘Lochman Lectures’ has always been to approach and discuss theological questions, being aware of different Christian traditions in a pluralistic world.
The Swiss Reformed Church, Basel-Stadt (ERK BS), with which the ‘Ev. Studienhaus’ is in close contact, values our links with various churches and Christian networks on all continents and supports the Studienhaus.
The next Lochman Lectures will take place between 6th and 9th May 2027. The title of the conference is "Ecclesia semper reformanda est" – Keeping up the Reformation of the Church
